Your Hair Colour On Quarantine - Survival Guide

How many thoughts have you given yet on getting out of your home, walk to the closest pharmacy and buy that box hair dye for to cover the imminent grow of your roots?

If, luckily, you have resisted that urging temptation, well then... Congratulations, you have just did yourself the biggest favour, and in just a couple of months, will thank yourself for holding on to and save your hair during this pandemic.

The truth is, there are many ways to take good care of your hair in these months of quarantine and self isolation from the rest of the world and... your hairdresser!

Here, we'll guide you to a list of tips of do's and dont's, but mostly dos to keep up with your hair colour, the integrity of the hair fiber, and how to keep your locks moisturized and healthy, for when there will be a professional to put his or her hands on it.

How to mask your greys or regrowth without falling for the hair box dyes?

1) Purchase a root touch up, grey and regrowth cover up

There are plenty of choices between shade of colours, tones, texture and brands, which one is best for you?

Mineral Powder: Blends Light and Dark Roots, Cover Greys and Refreshes Highlights

Color Wow Root Cover Up Touch Up Blonde Brown Black Red Light

Color WOW Root Cover Up is perfect for covering grey seamlessly even covers dark roots and extends highlights without peroxide.

There are 7 shades available Blonde, Platinum, Light Brown, Medium Brown, Dark Brown, Black and Red.

It comes with an elegant and practical solid plastic double panel box, with a mirror for applications on the go, the powder and a double sided brush. A wider one for application of bigger areas (in case it's been a while or to make it quick-er) and a smaller, tighter one, for a more precise application on smaller areas, or to add some highlights (or highlighting  effect).

Some people prefer it to the sprays root touch up because it's less messy and you are the one precisely applying the colour powder right on the desired spot, instead of hoping you have positioned the hole of the spray application in the right direction.

It's not stiff, sticky or waxy (nor it contains wax) like mascaras or crayons, and it looks natural thanks to its reflective qualities.

It washes away with shampoo, although it is water resistant and you can swim in it. It will be ok to sleep, sweat or go for a quick swim, but remember to reapply it after you have washed your hair with shampoo.

3) Do a 15 minutes hair colour mask twice a week

Now that we all have more time to take good care of ourselves, it can be a good thing to start a habit - if you're not already doing it - to use a hair masque targeted for colour and moisture.

That are plenty of hair masques out there, we selected 3 for every hair colour need and wallets:

Masque for Beautiful Color by Oribe

Add life and shine to your hair with the latest color-maintenance technology. Intense, cuticle-enriching conditioning, color-protecting UV filters and next-generation frizz-taming bio-polymers supercharge this color-enhancing, hair-repairing, glossifying masque.

Reflection Masque Chromatique by Kerastase

Masque Chromatique is a deep nourishing mask for fine sensitized colour treated or highlighted hair. Its innovative Système Capture Advanced and Aqua Ionic is able to capture pigments in the fiber.

Its chelators complex fights all color enemies including water particles, responsible for color fading. UV Filters and Vitamin E protect from oxydative aggressions, while Rice Bran Oil nourishes the fiber to emphasize light refraction. The color stays true and vibrant, the hair is nourished with a weightless touch.

ANGEL.MASQUE by KEVIN.MURPHY

ANGEL.MASQUE leaves hair feeling healthier, shinier and thicker, and contains essential ingredients to help protect against future damage. Our richly strengthening MASQUE is ideal for fine, fragile, broken and colour-damaged hair. It also helps prevent breakage, and aids in the repair of split, damaged ends.

4) Use only a professional hair colour shampoo that is sulphate-free

Even though is it at point 4, this is most likely the most important part of your hair colour care routine. If you always get your hair colour done professionally in salon, (as it is recommended, not only for better and richer results, but also for the health of your hair), then you want professional results and lasting hair colour all the time in between hair salon visits.

To prolonging and enhance the longest your hair colour in this crucial time, it is imperative to use a shampoo that will not strip away the colour from your hair fiber, and one that keeps it shiny and vibrant at the same time.

Her a few we recommend:

Shampoo for Beautiful Colour by ORIBE (not for thin and fine hair)

An ultra-gentle cleanser for ultra-beautiful color. Extend the bright, happy life of your dye with high-tech ingredients that target damaged areas for intense moisture treatment and protect your hue from the elements.

ANGEL.WASH by KEVIN.MURPHY

The delicate ANGEL.WASH volumising shampoo will nourish and transform fine, fragile hair that has been colour-treated or damaged. Infused with soothing essential oils, vitamins, proteins and antioxidants, ANGEL.WASH gently cleanses the scalp and hair while maximising colour longevity, and protecting against harmful free radicals.

We hope these few tips turn out to be beneficial for you and your hair colour, and please, resist the temptation to purchase a drugstore box dye and wait to be able to see your hairstylist.

If your hair was previously professionally coloured in hair salon, it is never a good idea to add box dye before you are able to go back in salon, it might take several long sessions (which your hair stylist/salon might not have available once they reopen) and lots of extra money to just go back to what it was before.

Hold on tight and take care of your hair and remember, we are all in this together!
